A young American artist, Marilyn, arrives in Paris and moves into her apartment on the same day as an American novelist, Gregg Gregory. They meet at the elevator the next morning and go for coffee. Gregg watches a young French woman powdering her nose with a compact mirror and he starts talking about the alternate reality and different dimensions on the other side of the mirror. Dominique Souverin, the young French woman writing the novel, is confined to a wheelchair and is paralyzed from the waist down and decides to take Marilyn's place to be with Gregg and on the other side of the mirror she can walk and feel her legs.
They fall in love and Dominique helps Gregg to become real and they marry and have a baby.
