Angus “Gus” Rugg, mildly obsessive and guilt-ridden by the tragic death of his wife, returns to his hometown in rural Illinois and purchases the auction house where he worked as a teen. Soon he runs into his childhood neighbor Sydney Cambridge. Thirty years older, but still the same old Syd, she quickly insinuates herself into Gus’s life and his auction business. When the pair comes upon a body at an estate sale, the local sheriff thinks all signs point to Gus as the killer.

Syd is eager to play detective and solve the crime to exonerate her friend. Reluctantly, Gus agrees to investigate further and try to figure out what really happened. As if things aren’t bad enough, Syd and Gus are unknowingly on a collision course with an escaped killer known as The Sandman, whose own obsessions control his sexual deviance and killing spree. Will Angus fall prey to his old fears and obsessions or will he step out of his comfort zone and do what has to be done?
