Some singles by one-hit wonders provoke groans when they are heard years later, because they are sadly dated, but equally, there are some one-off hits which retain a strange magic even when they are over a quarter of a century old. Yes, it was 1970 when ‘Groovin’ with Mr. Bloe’ trucked up the UK pop chart, but just couldn’t get past Mungo Jerry’s ‘In The Summertime’, which held the number one spot for seven weeks! But a number two hit for a couple of weeks is still quite an achievement, with the additional accolade of one music magazine, which took radio play into account as well as sales, making it number one for two weeks. Other singles were released by Mr. Bloe, but sadly, none had the appeal of ‘Groovin’’.
