Jung and Swedenborg on God and Life After Death (English Edition)

+++

The work of Carl Jung (1875-1961) remains an influential presence in psychology today.
The Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) are assuming greater importance in the psychological conception of the human mind. The two together offer a rational and scientific explanation of the collective unconscious and life after death. Jung’s visions of the collective unconscious are supplemented by Swedenborg’s dual consciousness. The human mind is born immortal and continues life after death in its spiritual body. Jung’s description of the process of individuation is illustrated by Swedenborg’s details about regeneration. In both cases, human personality development starts in this life and continues in the afterlife to eternity. The mental health of the individual in the afterlife is dependent on acquiring in this life altruistic concerns and habits of positive thinking and interacting with others. This requires that we know and manage the psychic forces that shape our development.

This book highlights the similarity between the spiritual ideas of Jung and Swedenborg regarding God, spirits, life after death, the collective unconscious, mental health, consciousness raising, dream analysis, and individuation or self-realization. The influence of Jung and Swedenborg on the Alcoholic Anonymous program is traced and explained. Selections from the work of the two giants of spiritual psychology are provided throughout this book including the near death experiences (NDEs) experienced and recounted by both authors.

The works of Jung and Swedenborg are unique in modern science literature in that together they provide a full account of dying, death, and the afterlife lifestyles that exist there. Is heaven for real? Is there a hell? Why does God keep people in hell? What are the psychic societies of the afterlife in which everyone lives after death? Can you talk to the departed? What is the role of religion in the afterlife? How long does it take between dying and being resuscitated from death into the afterlife? What kind of body do we then have and is it capable of love and pleasure? Are there marriages in the afterlife?

These questions and many more are answered fully in the combined books of Jung and Swedenborg. Both authors were capable of being conscious of the afterlife and both were able to communicate with many who were there, some of whom they had know in this world before they passed on. This book presents many passages from both authors that are easily overlooked in the original given the dozens of volumes that they each published on a wide range of psychological and religious topics.

When brought together in this collection with ample explanations by the author there is a striking realization that these two scientists have totally demystified death and dying, and have given us observational and empirical proof that life after death exists, and what it is like. The anxiety of death vanishes with the certainty of our immortality. But more than that, we are given the rational means of deciding how we want to prepare for that life while we are still here. We are immeasurably advantaged when we can understand the cause-effect connection that exists between our habits of thinking and doing in this life and our habits of thinking and doing in the afterlife.

Our eternal happiness or unhappiness is at stake. This book helps us to understand how we can control our destiny in eternity.
