Born to Be a Doctor: A Memoir

Paul Burns grew up on a ranch in rural west central Texas, then excelled in his studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His fascinating memoir details his experiences in medical school and his insights into the medical training of the era as well as his reflections on his tour of duty as a physician during the Vietnam War. After completing his medical training, he helped found a pioneering ENT clinic in Austin, just at the time that the city was developing into a major metropolis. His main focus since he retired from practicing medicine has been the restoration of his family ranch in Brown County, which has been recognized with the Lone Star Steward Award from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
