Charlie is a man dogged by bad luck. His parents are gone, his childhood home has been repossessed, and his job is a dead end. The only fortuitous bone that’s been thrown Charlie’s way is his beautiful wife, Mandy, though things aren’t as good as they used to be, and he can’t help but wonder if she’d be better off with someone else.

In contrast, Charlie’s boss, Jeff, has just won the lottery. And as Charlie notices at Jeff’s opulent housewarming party, he’s not afraid to flaunt his good fortune. But when a bizarre crime interrupts the celebration, Charlie be will forced to reevaluate how he sees himself and his marriage—and how he might not be so unlucky after all.

Through a twisted plot of luck, envy, and organ thieves, Medulla Fortunata reminds us that sometimes catching a break simply means letting go of a fantasy.
