Charles Berlitz was born in New York in 1913, the grandson of Maximilian Berlitz, founder of the Berlitz language schools. He graduated with honours from Yale University and spoke thirty languages. He joined the family firm but sold it in the late 1960s. He became a noted writer on the paranormal and published a number of books including The Mystery of Atlantis, Mysteries from Forgotten Worlds, Without a Trace, The Lost Ship of Noah and The Dragon’s Triangle. He died in 2003.
