At times when nothing works, we turn to our mind and therewithin, the tiny thought takes a familiar shape. To ZiniaMitra, that pictured thought is the fern. To her fern is a mother from whom have birthed other forms of nature; and like a mother who infuses good qualities of breeding to her children, the poems here have done no less. At the breakfast table, the poet recalls the ‘fronds’ from the woods complete with their smell and ‘burdened with raindrops.’
You feel nature’s presence as she takes you for a walk, and you come across the overwhelming sky as ‘we look out/ over the cliff’. So one decides ‘to follow a white fluff/ sailing above the dhupi forest.’“The Wait”where the poet sits on a ‘white wicker chair’ surrounded by ‘cerulean mountains’ as ‘rain-clouds unfold their wings’ and ‘damp winds/ die around rough heavy logs’ , on a sudden, it becomes the perfect moment ‘to confess my wait for you.’
An element of solitude gently wraps the poems, and when you sail through them carrying ‘a quietness in my bones’, ‘the ancient green hills/ from the old trees’ appear to you in their solitary quietness.
Part II begins with The City in slumber, and one does not fail to picture a crumpled paper packet crossing the street. However, the poet cannot escape the plants and flowers, and hills and mountains in this second part too. It’s almost like returning to one’s roots even amid city life.
