Excerpt: Löwenbräu (German pronunciation: ; UK: , US: , or ) is a German brewery in Munich, Bavaria, Germany that produces a traditional Munich-style beer. It is currently owned by the American-Brazilian-Belgian company Anheuser-Busch InBev. Like other premium German beers, it is brewed according to the German "Reinheitsgebot" (Purity Law) dating back to 1516. Löwenbräu means "lion's brew". The brewery was probably already created 1383. In the year 1524 a Jörg Schnaitter was called, pierprew (Brewer) on the property in the lion pit 17. Löwenbräu was mentioned for the first time 1746 in the Taxbook for Beer of Munich. The lion in the name originates from a fresco "Daniel in the lion pit" in the Brewing-house mentioned from that 17. Century. 1818 the brewer George Brey originating from rural conditions bought the lion brewery.
