Virgilio ’s Last Puzzle: (Aesop's Manuscripts) (English Edition)

“I tried literally everything to catch these grapes, but nothing seems to have worked so far!” thought the Fox and stopped jumping for a moment. “And the worst thing is this young man; he has been observing me all this time and does not want to go away… If it were not for him, I would have abandoned these grapes long ago and would have tried to find something else to eat. But look at him, he is still there, observing every movement I make! What an indiscreet person really! Oh, look, he is approaching…”

This book is not the typical novel you may find elsewhere, although it may begin and end as such. Imagine a collection of manuscripts with several myths of Aesop, retold by four imaginary personae (Diodorus, Marcus, Quintus and Virgilio), who are supposed to be true descendants of Aesop himself, hence entitled to attempt the very hubris of retelling the masterpieces. Each version brings a fresh view on the myth, sometimes a more philosophical one and sometimes a complete twist of the plot and the meaning.

But what about the novel? There is something, minor, almost insignificant, about a young man called Virgilio, who inherits a mysterious collection of manuscripts from his grandfather -yet another Virgilio, one of the many apparently- with the claim that they date back to antiquity, from Aesop's years till the current times. Is it a bad joke of an old man? Is it a last game between a grandfather and a grandson? Or is it a true story? Virgilio is not sure, yet he decides to embrace all three options in a surprising way...
