Sq'Whirls is a wonderful story about a young boy conquering his fears to become someone he never ever dreamed he could be again. A young seven-year old boy, confined to a wheelchair since a very early age, learns that limitations and fears can be overcome with the aid of a few new-found friends. Motivated by his desire to connect with a group of squirrels who live in the nearby forest (he calls them Sq'Whirls as they run so fast), Timothy must push himself beyond the physical boundaries of his yard and face his fear of the unknown in order to feed peanuts to the Sq'whirls with his slingshot. To reach them where they remain on the edge of the trees of The Great Woods, he must keep going further and further away from his comforting familiar yard to cross an unfamiliar field towards a place he has always feared. His success at overcoming obstacles placed in his path to reach his goal gives him the confidence to attempt to overcome his physical limitations as well. Therapy sessions, which had been nothing but regular opportunities for frustration and disappointment, now become a challenge to conquer. For the first time ever, Timothy finds the courage and determination to push himself beyond the limits he had unknowingly placed upon himself. Working harder than he ever had before, he amazes himself when he is finally able to lift himself up and out of his wheelchair and takes the first step he has ever known!
Armed with his new confidence, Timothy is determined to fulfill his dream of feeding the Sq'Whirls by hand. To accomplish this, he pushes his chair further out into the field than he had ever gone before. Having become familiar with Tim by now, one after the other, the Sq'Whirls venture out beyond the safety of the trees and into the field to finally accept the peanuts from his hand. Timothy's excitement and great joy are short-lived, as a hawk arrives and dives upon Timothy's favorite Sq'Whirl...a small little one with a damaged foot aptly named 'Little Tim' just as Timothy's chair gets stuck in the mud!
