In the series of recordings from the prestigious Opera National de Paris, TDK presents Rossini¡¦s Il Barbiere di Siviglia , in a production staged by Coline Serreau as the successful film director¡¦s second work for the opera.
The internationally selected cast features one of the leading lyric mezzos in the Rossini repertoire, American Joyce DiDonato as Rosina and German-Italian star tenor Roberto Sacca as her seducer, Count Almaviva.
The imposing sets by Jean-Marc Stehle and Antoine Fontaine as well as the costumes by Elsa Pavanel provide a mixture of historical realism and fairy-tale fantasy, supporting Serreau¡¦s setting of the story in a Seville that had been under Islamic occupation for four hundred years only to be followed by the rigidity of the catholic church.
